What Is It

What Is Solar High Mast Lighting

A solar high mast light is a tall pole fitted with multiple LED fixtures at the top, designed to illuminate a large area from a single point. Instead of putting up several small poles across a site, one high mast tower does the job of many. This is why highways, temple grounds, ports, and industrial yards rely on this design rather than standard street lighting.

Unlike conventional high mast systems that draw power from the grid, a solar high mast runs entirely on its own solar panel and battery. There is no monthly electricity bill and no dependence on grid uptime, which makes it a practical choice for sites where a grid connection is unreliable, expensive to extend, or simply not available. For smaller roads and village lanes, our solar street lights are the better fit. High mast is built for wide area coverage, whether that is a highway stretch, a temple ground, or a large industrial yard.

How It Works

Three Simple Steps

STEP 01
Solar Panel Charges the Battery
During the day, the solar panel mounted near the pole charges the battery through an MPPT controller, which is our standard choice since it draws more usable power from the panel than a basic PWM controller.
STEP 02
Battery Stores the Energy
The charge is stored in a lithium-ion or LiFePO4 battery sized to run every LED fixture on the pole for a full night, even after a cloudy day.
STEP 03
LEDs Switch On Automatically
At dusk, the fixtures turn on automatically and stay lit through the night, then switch off at dawn. No manual operation, no wiring back to the grid.

Why Solar

Why Choose Solar Over Grid-Powered High Mast

No Monthly Electricity Bill
A grid-powered high mast runs on a meter connection that keeps adding to your electricity cost every single month for as long as the light operates. A solar high mast has zero running cost after installation, since the sun is doing all the work.
No Grid Extension Cost
Extending grid infrastructure to a highway stretch, temple ground, or remote site is expensive and often takes months of approvals. A solar high mast skips this step entirely and can be installed wherever it is needed.
Lower Long-Term Cost
The upfront cost of a solar high mast is offset within a few years through eliminated electricity bills. Over the 20 plus year lifespan of the panels, the total cost works out lower than a grid-connected equivalent.
Works Where Grid Cannot Reach
For highways, ports, and rural sites with no nearby grid connection, solar is often the only realistic option. We install these across sites throughout Odisha, giving reliable lighting from day one without waiting on a grid connection.

A Real Solar High Mast Project

Solar high mast light installation at Kapileswar Temple, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
GREEN FILAMENT PROJECT
Solar High Mast Light, Kapileswar Temple, Bhubaneswar

Kapileswar Temple in Bhubaneswar needed reliable lighting across its grounds without relying on a grid connection. Green Filament installed a 9-metre solar high mast pole fitted with four sets of 30W LED fixtures, giving wide, even coverage across the temple premises from a single point.

The system runs on a 75W solar panel and a 30Ah LiFePO4 battery through an MPPT controller, our standard choice for efficient charging. The lights switch on automatically at dusk and run through the night, giving the temple dependable illumination with zero electricity bill.
